Commemorating the 20th anniversary of Deng Xiaoping’s south tour talks

Abstract: Comrade Deng Xiaoping delivered south tour talks during his inspection tour of south China in 1992. We should take his talks seriously and learn them by heart, as they are of historical value and still guide the present reform and opening up. Written on the talks’ 20th anniversary in 2012, this paper makes analysis from their historical background, the understanding of economic development as the central task, the reasons for opening up to the new issues that need to be studied, fully affirming the significance of Deng Xiaoping’s south tour talks. On the basis of China’s economic achievements since the talks, the author believes that Deng Xiaoping’s south tour talks have put forward another brand-new topic of further mind emancipation.
