Abstract: A “pocket garden” ecological pilot area was set up in Siyuan Garden, Shouyi Campus, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. After three years, a vibrant micro-ecosystem has formed on the once barren and compacted land. The soil’s microflora has been improved. The increase of flowers and plants can avoid human trampling, and the land is not easy to compact, providing a better living environment for microorganisms and insects. Native and exotic species, plants and insects and birds, live in harmony, as a sentence goes in the Preface of Holy Doctrine of the Tripitaka of the Tang Dynasty: Plants have no consciousness, but they can accomplish good deeds with good conditions, not to mention human beings who have flesh and blood and thinking with which they should seek better life.

Key words: Pocket garden, biodiversity, microecosystem
