To explore the balance between animal welfare and medical research: Artificial Bear Bile

Abstract: Traditional Chinese medicine has a long history of using bile drugs, especially bear bile. The demand for its medicinal use has continued from ancient times to the present. With the development of science and technology, its dosage form and application range have been expanded. However, from the perspective of animal welfare, “extracting bile from live bears” is extremely harmful to animals. Today, when ecological civilization has become the trend of the times and public awareness of animal welfare is generally high, “extracting bile from live bears” has become inappropriate. The development of artificial bear bile is of great significance to the early abolition of “extracting bile from live bears”, promoting animal welfare, and achieving harmonious coexistence between man and nature.
