Abstract: In recent years, judicial cases involving biodiversity conservation have been on the rise year by year. The types of cases cover core areas of biodiversity conservation such as species diversity, genetic diversity and ecosystem diversity protection. It is imperative to scientifically and reasonably validate the degree of biodiversity damage, formulate standardized procedures for validating the degree of biodiversity damage, and form a technical system for validating the degree of biodiversity damage. Validation of a reasonable baseline of biodiversity damage is a key technical link and work basis for scientifically assessing the degree of biodiversity damage. Based on relevant national standards and literature research, this article systematically sorts out and summarizes the principles, procedures and methods for determining the baseline of biodiversity damage, and analyzes and discusses the difficult issues in validating the baseline.

Key words: Judicial authentication of environmental damage, biodiversity baseline, baseline validation
